Golfing in Italy, Truly Spectacular!

Written & Contributed by Jason

When one thinks of beautiful golfing destinations around the world, Italy is typically not top of mind. In recent years, Italy is making a name for itself as an innovative and unique golf destination, thanks to traditions, history, cuisine and last but not least, it's challenging and picturesque golf courses. In Italy, thanks to the mild climate, you may play golf all year round, and the locations of the various golf courses offered allow you the chance to visit some of the most wonderful cities of art and taste the various regional dishes. You can choose to base yourself around the ‘eternal city' of Rome, the magnificent centre of Florence or chic Milan, where the cultural and historical attractions all but match the fine array of golf courses. If you fancy golfing in style, check out the glamorous Italian lakes of Garda and Como for a magnificent golf escape, where the hotels exude class. If a slower pace sounds appealing, then consider rural Tuscany, the countryside of Emilia Romagna, or Puglia in Italy's south, while the island destinations of Sicily and Sardinia combine great golf with quintessential traditional charm and outstanding beaches.

There are many different golf resorts and courses in and around Italy that you can enjoy, including but certainly not limited to: Castelgandolfo Country Club, Fioranello Golf Course, Marco Simone Golf Club, Parco di Roma Golf Club, and the Roma Acquasanta Circolo del Golf, all located in Rome. There are also some newer golf courses that were designed in the nineties by the likes of Arnold Palmer (Castello di Tolcinasco Golf and Country Club), Jack Nicklaus (Le Robinie Golf & Sporting Club) and Gary Player (Donnafugata Golf Resort) that are now enjoying tremendous success.

For the Tuscany area, some of the top rated golf courses are the Le Pavoniere, Ugolino Golf, Versilia Golf Course, Cosmopolitan Golf Course, and the Castelfalfi Golf Club.

Where to Stay

Once you have decided on which course to golf, the next step is deciding on where to stay. One thing to remember is that Italy is a very popular tourist destination, so accommodations tend to fill up quickly. It is always recommended that you make your reservations early to ensure availability for the time and date you are interested in. Some of the more notable golf resorts in Italy include Le Robinie Resort, Golf Parco De Medici Resort, Poggio Dei Medici and Palazzo Arzaga Resort. All of these options are different, but everyone benefits from the Italian constants of fantastic gastronomy and amazing hospitality, which is why so many people are choosing Italy for their next golf holiday.
